這首詩被鐫刻在美國麻薩諸塞州波士頓的新英格蘭猶太人大屠殺紀念碑石碑上。

德國著名神學家兼信義宗牧師馬丁·尼莫拉的一首詩（懺悔文），描述忽視與自己無關的團體所造成的結果。該詩後來常被引用，作為對不關心政治的人之呼籲。

They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up,because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up,because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up,
because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me.
